According to initial police investigations, the attackers were allegedly sponsored by elements from across the border, entered Indian territory, and opened indiscriminate fire on a tourist vehicle.
According to the FIR received, the police were informed that some armed men suddenly stopped a vehicle and started firing. The terrorists were armed with modern weapons, targeted the tourists, and fled the scene.
According to police officials, after the attack, a large number of forces reached the spot and cordoned off the area, and an investigation has been launched. The FIR states that “it was a well-planned terrorist act in which people trained from across the border are involved”.
The injured were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, while several people’s condition is considered critical. A case has been registered under sections 307, 302, and the Anti-Terrorism Act, and an investigation is underway.
Security has been put on high alert in the valley following the incident, and officials have claimed that action will be taken after identifying the attackers soon.
The initial FIR, registered after a tragic terrorist attack in the Pahalgam area of Anantnag district, revealed that the attackers came from across the border and opened fire on the tourists, causing several casualties on the spot. The attack took place between 1:50 pm and 2:20 pm on Tuesday.
Eyewitness Account
Abdul Wahid Wani, the head of a local welfare organization, who lives in the area, told the BBC that he was among the first to reach the scene of the attack.
According to Wani, he received a phone call from the police at 2:35 pm informing him that something unusual had happened. He immediately reached the spot along with his brother Sajjad. Wani said: “The police said that something has happened in Bushmanar, you go there and see.
I took my brother Sajjad with me, and we immediately reached there. When I reached there, I saw the bodies of three children, which were covered in blood.”
According to Wani, the police later reached the destination at 2:50 pm and launched an investigation into the matter.
Here, it is important to note that the eyewitness who claims to be the first one to reach the spot says that the police reached the spot more than half an hour late, which indicates that they were not taking the matter seriously.
Other eyewitnesses who were lucky enough to escape described the incident as surreal and terrifying, while the terrorists were firing bullets at the vehicle with no regard for those inside.
The people in the vehicle did not know what was about to happen to them and were either stunned with confusion or trying to get out of the way.
In the FIR, Inspector Ali Manzoor reported that the gunmen opened indiscriminate fire on the tourists riding in a white Suzuki vehicle. The attackers used modern weapons, resulting in several people being killed on the spot and others being seriously injured. The attackers fled towards the forest after the incident.
The report also states that the attack was a planned terrorist act, but the details given by the eyewitness raise a serious question about the credibility of the FIR.
The police and security agencies have termed the incident as a serious threat to the law and order of the state and have also involved central agencies in the investigation.
However, the reports gathered by the BBC have raised a serious question on the credibility of all the details written in the FIR and the details given by the eyewitnesses, which completely contradict.
